North Downs Way Ultra Run

The North Downs Way Ultra Run is a guided group event held in the Surrey Hills. Participants follow a 30 mile route that starts and finishes at St Martha's Hill in Guildford. This run is structured as a collective experience rather than a competitive race, with the group moving together under the guidance of a qualified coach and mountain leader.

The course covers various scenic locations within the North Downs Way and its surrounding areas. Runners navigate through the Surrey Hills, passing through small villages and the Denbies Wine Estate. A primary landmark on the route is the top of Box Hill, where participants stop for refreshments including cake and drinks. The return journey follows the North Downs Way westbound, passing Newland's Corner and St Martha's church.

Participants are expected to have a specific level of fitness and experience for this event. It is recommended that runners have completed at least 22 miles in training. The group maintains an average pace of approximately 10 min/miles (6 min/km) on the trails. This event is designed to provide an introduction to long-distance trail running, as the guide handles all navigation and is available to answer technical questions throughout the day.

The meeting point at St Martha's Hill includes access to a car park and is located near a train station. Registration includes a guided run, coaching advice, and an alcohol-free beer provided at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
