North Chilterns 50K
The North Chilterns 50K is a trail race held at Putteridge Bury in Luton, Bedfordshire. The event uses local Chiltern Way and Ridgeway trails on a 50 km course with about 798 m+ of elevation and a maximum field of 250 runners. The event is listed as a UTMB World Series index race and is licensed by the Trail Running Association (licence 8216); the race is held under UKA rules.
The route includes flowing ridgeline running and several notable viewpoints such as Warden Hill and Barton and Pegsdon Hills. From the event base runners follow the Chiltern Way towards Lilley, then out to Warden and Barton Hills; after the first checkpoint there is a major climb and later a 12 km final section with three small hills described as a mini rollercoaster. The course is fully marked and marshals are positioned at busier sections; runners must also carry a digital version of the route as backup.
There are three aid stations at Arnold Rec Barton (14.3 km), The View (28 km) and Offley Village Hall (37.2 km), each with toilets. Aid station supplies include water, cola, electrolyte drink, gels, chews, crisps, sweets and fresh fruit. The event base at Putteridge Bury Country House provides indoor registration, toilets, hot drinks and direct access to the trails.
Runners must be at least 20 years old and carry required kit including a phone, route map on device, waterproof jacket, headtorch, minimum 0.5 L refillable hydration, hat, gloves, foil blanket and payment method.
