North Chilterns 50K
The North Chilterns 50K is a 50 km trail race held on 21 November 2026 from Putteridge Bury, Luton (LU2 8LE). The course records approximately 798 m of ascent, is fully marked, and is limited to 250 runners. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and is run under UKA rules. It is listed as a UTMB World Series Index Race. Minimum entry age is 20 and dogs are not permitted.
The route follows sections of the Chiltern Way towards Lilley, then out to Warden Hill, Barton & Pegsdon Hills and on towards Offley. Notable features include several ridgeline viewpoints and a final 12 km section with three small hills. Terrain is trail based and generally non technical, with potentially softer, muddier ground in autumn. Navigation is aided by orange arrow markers, ribbons and marshals at key points; runners are required to carry a digital version of the route on a watch or phone as a backup.
There are three checkpoint aid stations at Arnold Rec, Barton (14.3 km), The View (28 km) and Offley Village Hall (37.2 km), each with toilets. Typical supplies include water, soft drinks, Precision Fuel & Hydration products, snacks and fresh fruit. Event facilities at Putteridge Bury include indoor registration, toilets, hot drinks, bag drop, chip timing, course medical cover and free onsite parking. A GPX file and runner guide are available. Required kit includes a mobile phone with emergency number, route map on watch or phone, waterproof jacket, headtorch, refillable 0.5 L hydration, cash or card, warm hat and gloves, and a foil blanket.
