North Chilterns 50K
This trail ultra marathon takes place on a 50 km course in the North Chilterns area. The route starts and finishes at Putteridge Bury in Bedfordshire. It follows trails and includes 798 meters of elevation gain.
The course is fully marked with signage and ribbons. The event has an overall time limit of 8 hours and 45 minutes. The maximum number of participants is 250.
Route Details
Runners follow the Chiltern Way towards Lilley, passing through Warden Hill, Barton Hills, and Pegsdon Hills. The terrain is described as undulating with some sharper climbs. The final 12 km section includes three smaller hills.
Aid Stations
There are three checkpoints on the course:
- CP 1: Arnold Rec, Barton (14.3 km)
- CP 2: The View (28 km)
- CP 3: Offley Village Hall (37.2 km)
Each aid station provides water, Coca-Cola, Precision Fuel & Hydration electrolyte drinks, gels, chews, crisps, sweets, and fresh fruit such as bananas, oranges, and watermelon. Toilets are available at each checkpoint.
Event Information
Registration takes place at the Putteridge Bury country house, which has indoor facilities and toilets. Hot drinks are available. There is free onsite parking and a bag drop service. The event is permitted by the Trail Running Association (TRA Licence No. 7745).
A GPX file of the route is available for download. Runners must carry a mobile phone, the route map on a device, a waterproof jacket, a headtorch, a refillable hydration system (minimum 0.5 liters), cash or a bank card, a warm hat and gloves, and a foil blanket.
The entry fee is £75 (or £73 for UKA-affiliated runners). Participants must be at least 20 years old. Included with entry are a finisher's medal, chip timing with live results, aid station support, course-wide medical support, and the bag drop. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers overall and to age category winners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
