Nocturnal 12

The Nocturnal 12 is a fixed-time endurance event held in Rochester, NY. Use of the Lake Ontario State Parkway Trail provides a mostly flat, paved surface for participants. The course follows a 1.03-mile out-and-back route, totaling 2.06 miles per round trip, between Island Cottage Road and Dewey Avenue.

As a 12-hour fixed-time race, participants may complete as many laps as they wish within the allotted duration. To be recorded as a finisher, a minimum of one full lap is required. The event is open to runners and walkers, including mobility-impaired participants. Because the trail lacks streetlights, all participants must use headlamps or flashlights.

Available distances and event types:

  • 12-Hour Endurance Challenge
  • Individual or Team participation

The event includes an all-night aid station. Participants can specify dietary needs during registration, with options to accommodate various sensitivities. Traditional snack items like pizza, cookies, and Gatorade are typically provided. Participants also have the option to set up personal aid stations or tents along the course.

Registered individuals receive a wooden keepsake medallion, a race shirt, and a digital finisher's certificate. Cumulative mileage tokens are awarded for reaching specific milestones such as 5K, 13.1 miles, 26.2 miles, and 50K. Those who complete 50 miles or more receive a special commemorative item like a sweatshirt or blanket. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
