Newport Sprint Triathlon
The Newport Sprint Triathlon is a multi-sport event held in Newport, Rhode Island. The course is designed as a classic sprint-distance triathlon, beginning and ending at Fort Adams State Park. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT), requiring all participants to have a current membership or a one-day pass to compete.
The event consists of three distinct segments:
- 1/3 mile protected swim in Fort Adams cove.
- 11.6 mile bike ride along Ocean Drive.
- 3 mile run through Fort Adams State Park.
The swim takes place in calm waters beside the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry. The cycling portion follows a route along the coast featuring rolling terrain and local landmarks. The final running segment traverses the grounds of the state park, including sections located inside the historic fort itself and along the waterfront.
A portion of each registration fee is donated to Save The Bay, a nonprofit organization focused on protecting Narragansett Bay. The event is centered at 90 Fort Adams Drive and follows a route that showcases the coastal scenery of the New England region. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
