Trident Newport Sprint Triathlon
The Trident Newport Sprint Triathlon is a sprint-distance triathlon held in Newport, Rhode Island, based at Fort Adams and along Ocean Drive. The course is organized as a three-part sprint totaling about 15 miles, with the following segments: a 0.33 mile protected swim in Fort Adams cove beside the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry, an 11.6 mile bike along Ocean Drive, and a 3 mile run through Fort Adams State Park that includes stretches inside the historic fort and along waterfront grounds.
The event offers both individual and relay team entries; listed registration fees are $85 for individual entries and $185 for relay teams. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. All participants must hold a current USAT membership or purchase a one-day USAT membership during registration, and every registrant must complete and sign the USAT waiver prior to competing. No athlete will be permitted to race without a valid USAT membership and a signed waiver.
The venue highlights coastal scenery and historic sites in Newport. The swim occurs in a protected cove, the bike course follows a scenic ocean drive with rolling terrain, and the run takes place within Fort Adams State Park and its waterfront grounds.
