About the race
Nav Challenge 3 is an unmarked navigational event in County Wicklow forming part of the annual Navigational Challenge league. It offers two course options with different numbers of controls and terrain.
Distances:
- 15.00 km long course, includes some open mountain and about 500 m climb.
- 8.00 km short course, visits fewer controls.
Navigation is by map and compass only; electronic devices are not permitted for navigation. At the start entrants receive a grid reference and descriptions for each control plus a punch card. Competitors visit controls in any order and mark controls on their map; bring a marker or pencil. A master map with controls marked is released eight minutes after the start for reference.
Mandatory level C kit must be carried and may be checked. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, full leg waterproof cover, hat, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number, foil blanket or bivvy, compass, map, means to carry at least 500 mL water, and emergency food. The exact kit to carry during the race will be confirmed at registration.
Course bounds, final kit requirements, and directions to the venue will be posted closer to the event. Prizegiving is at the start/finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
