36th Annual Stinson Beach/Muir Woods Marathon
The Stinson Beach/Muir Woods Marathon is a trail running event held in Stinson Beach, California. The race begins at sea level at the Stinson Beach Parking Lot and immediately ascends into the wooded trails of Muir Woods. The course follows the Dipsea trail to Steep Ravine, featuring a wooden ladder, natural rock and wooden staircases, and sections where participants scramble under tree trunks.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 7 Mile
The course is marked with orange ribbons. The 7 Mile participants turn at the first aid station, while the Half Marathon and Marathon runners complete a loop. The Marathon includes two loops and an additional out-and-back section. Due to the narrow trails and steep drop-offs, the use of headphones or audio devices is prohibited for safety reasons.
Participants have a 6.5-hour cut-off time to complete their distance, and hikers are welcome to join. Aid stations are situated at miles 3.8, 7.5, 10.5, 14.2, 17.2, and 22.2. All participants receive a T-shirt, and marathon and half marathon finishers receive medals. Top finishers in each age group are eligible for award ribbons.
