Ken Reed Baker Beach Memorial 5K
The DSE hosts a memorial 5K on Baker Beach to honor the life of a longtime club member. The event takes place on December 6, 2026, with the Start/Finish at the Lower Baker Beach parking lot.
The course uses mixed surfaces: asphalt, concrete and sand, gravel trail and a wooden bridge. Runners exit the lower parking lot and turn left onto Battery Chamberlin Road, continue through the upper parking lot, pass through a gate and run east into a short battery section before a 0.6 mile uphill climb. The route follows the inside of the guard rail along Lincoln Way, then turns onto a left fork gravel trail that includes the new trail section with a wooden bridge. Participants return the same way from the trail end; the course does not exit onto the pedestrian and bike lane that leads to the bridge.
Additional parking is available in the upper parking lot off Battery Chamberlin Road. Baby strollers are not permitted for this race. The event is organized by the DSE running club and reflects the club mission to encourage runners and walkers to compete, socialize and improve.
