Event overview
Muddy Shamrock @ The Forge is a trail race held in Lemont, Illinois on March 14, 2026. The event includes two distances and uses a common start and finish area at The Forge: Lemont Quarries, 227 Heritage Quarries Dr., Lemont, IL 60439. Race entries include chip-timed results with live splits, overall and age-group awards, a Muddy Shamrock T-shirt, and a post-race party with food, beer, and music.
Distances
- Trail Half Marathon - about 13.1 +/- miles, two laps
- Trail Quarter Marathon - approximately 6.6 +/- miles, one lap
Course and logistics
The course runs on wooded single- and double-track mountain bike trails and some gravel trails around the historic Lemont Quarries. Surfaces include dirt, grass, rocks, mud, roots, stumps and other variable terrain; a few sections are technical with short steep inclines and downhills. Trail running shoes are recommended. There is one aid station offering water and sports drink at the start of the half-marathon second lap; participants are advised to plan on carrying their own hydration and fuel. Organizers aim to limit or go cupless.
Packet pick-up is available at specified locations before race day and on race day if the race is not sold out. Parking is available in Lots 1 or 2 after the second stop sign on the gravel road, nearest the bridges and start/finish area.

Awards are given 1st–3rd overall male and female, 1st–3rd in 10-year age groups from under 20 through 70+, masters (40+), and Mr. & Ms. Mid-Pack. Past results and photos are available from previous years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
