Fancy Nonsense 25k/50k
The Fancy Nonsense event is a trail running event for 2026 that will be held at Deer Grove Forest Preserve. It offers multiple distance options on a looped course designed for repeated laps.

The course uses a 5.5 mile loop that returns to the aid station after each lap. The route is mostly single track and described as entirely runnable. There are many random, unmarked trails in the area; those are not part of the course and major intersections on the course will be marked. Runners receive a fully marked course map at packet pickup.
Aid stations are placed by distance: two stations for the 25k and five for the 50k. Stations will be stocked with water, soda, snacks, and doughnuts among other items. Crews may meet runners at a designated location. Pacers are not allowed.
The event organizer operates under the name CUSS Running, a group formed to add whimsy to training and racing. The stated mission is to help others fall in love with ultrarunning. The organizer also offers a number of free entries for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes as an affirmation of belonging; these entries are distributed while funding exists. Entrants' declared gender is accepted at face value and non-binary athletes can arrange to have pronoun or registration records amended.
