The Fancy Nonsense event offers trail running options in a woodland preserve, with three distances on a repeating loop course. For 2026 the race course is being held at Deer Grove Forest Preserve after trail renovations and closures at Palos Forest Preserves.

The course is a 5.5-mile loop that runners repeat until they reach their target distance. It is described as mostly single track and entirely runnable. Course markings will be used at major intersections, and each entrant receives a fully marked course map at packet pickup. Participants should expect other people on the trails and unmarked side trails that are not part of the route.

Aid coverage differs by distance: two aid stations serve 25K runners and five serve 50K runners. Aid stations are stocked with water, soda, snacks, doughnuts, and additional items; organizers can accommodate food-allergy requests or specific provisions when informed. Crews are allowed to meet runners at designated park access points. Pacers are not permitted.

The event is organized by CUSS Running (Curious Ultrarunner's Secret Society), which states a mission to foster enjoyment of ultrarunning and includes policies for inclusion: a number of free entries are reserved for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes, entrants’ declared gender is accepted at face value, and organizers will update pronoun records for non-binary athletes upon request.
