MTC September Aquathlon
The MTC September Aquathlon is the final event in a five-race midweek series held at the Trafford Water Sports Centre within Sale Water Park. This multisport event combines open water swimming and running in a straightforward format suited for various participants. The venue is located on Rifle Road in Sale, Cheshire, and is accessible via the Sale Water Park Metrolink stop or by car, with parking available near the boathouse restaurant.
The race features two primary distances:
- 800m swim and 5km run: For adults and participants aged 15 and over.
- 400m swim and 2.5km run: For TriStar 3 and youth categories.
The swim segment takes place in the lake at Sale Water Park. Competitors start in deep water and follow an anti-clockwise course. Seniors complete two laps of a 400m loop. Wetsuits are mandatory if the water temperature is below 14 degrees Celsius, and swim hats must be worn at all times. Participants transition on wooden decking located between the lake and the Watersports Centre before starting the run.
The run course follows a path around the lake in an anti-clockwise direction. Each lap measures 2.5km, meaning seniors complete two laps. A notable feature of the run includes a crossing at approximately 250m involving stepping stones, which may require extra care depending on water levels. Results are published online following the conclusion of the event, and all races are conducted under British Triathlon Federation rules.
