MTC Scotia 2028

The MTC Scotia is a nine-day, multi-stage ultra marathon covering the length of Scotland. It is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The race starts in Gretna Green and finishes at John O'Groats, covering a total distance of 370 miles.

Each of the nine days is a distinct ultra marathon, collectively known as The Myths & Legends of Scotia. The daily distances are:

  • Day 1: 55.1 miles
  • Day 2: 31.3 miles
  • Day 3: 40.6 miles
  • Day 4: 35.2 miles
  • Day 5: 43.1 miles
  • Day 6: 39 miles
  • Day 7: 45.2 miles
  • Day 8: 42.6 miles
  • Day 9: 38.2 miles

The event includes eight nights of hotel accommodation on a shared-room basis, all food, and full race support. Entry is limited to 20 competitors. A strict minimum average pace of 4 mph is enforced daily; runners falling below this pace may be withdrawn from the race. No runner is allowed to continue on the course after 22:00. The event is cup-free, so participants must bring their own reusable cup.

All finishers receive a Scotia medal, a trophy, a bottle of champagne, and an additional bespoke medal for each of the nine days completed. Participants also receive several personalized hi-viz technical t-shirts and a jacket. Competitors are responsible for booking their own accommodation at the start in Gretna Green and after the finish at John O'Groats.

A mandatory kit list includes items such as a backpack, head torch, maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. Each runner is provided with a tracking device for monitoring their progress during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
