MTC Scotia
The MTC Scotia is a nine day end to end ultra running challenge across Scotland, following a route from Gretna Green to John O'Groats. The full route totals about 370.3 miles and is presented as nine individual ultra stages that together form the Myths & Legends of Scotia series.
Entry is limited to 20 competitors. Accommodation is provided by the organiser at the end of Day 1 through Day 8; competitors are responsible for booking their own accommodation at the start and after the finish. Evening meals and most breakfasts are included, with some early starts using portable options such as porridge pots and yoghurt. Competitors receive personalised high visibility technical shirts and a jacket, and the event sponsor provides footwear for each entrant.
The event has mandatory kit requirements and on-course tracking. Competitors must carry a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps as supplied, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid pack. The organiser issues a tracking device with an SOS function and maintains checkpoint food stations.
Time restrictions are based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; falling below this across consecutive days may result in withdrawal. No competitor may remain on course after 22:00. All finishers receive a Scotia medal, a Scotia trophy and a day medal for each completed stage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
