The MTC REDCAP is a single-day ultra running event held on 27 May 2028. The route covers 55.1 miles from the Gretna Chase Hotel, Gretna, to the Traquair Arms Hotel, Innerleithen. It is Day 1 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end series and forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge. This is the first edition of the MTC REDCAP.
Logistics and race rules
Competitor numbers are limited to 20 entries for the REDCAP plus an allowance of 20 SCOTIA competitors, for a maximum field of 40. The race enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors falling below this will be withdrawn. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on the start day. The event is cup-free so competitors must bring a reusable cup.
Mandatory items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps (provided), compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid kit and emergency food. Each competitor will be issued a tracking device with an SOS function. Maps and GPX files are emailed to entrants four weeks before the event.
Check-points are at Lockerbie (10.6 miles), Langholm (21.4 miles), Selkirk (32.4 miles and 43.1 miles) and the finish at Innerleithen (55.1 miles). Example checkpoint food includes malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water.
Entry is non-refundable. Fees are: REDCAP £90.00; REDCAP Plus Race Package £155.00 (includes an embroidered race shirt and hi-viz jacket; clothing orders must be completed at least four weeks before the event). All finishers receive a REDCAP medal; male and female champions receive trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
