MTC REDCAP : event overview
MTC REDCAP is a single-day ultra running event on 27 May 2028. The race is new for 2028 and forms Day 1 of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end series. The course distance is 55.1 miles and runs from Gretna (Gretna Chase Hotel) to Innerleithen (Traquair Arms Hotel). Competitor numbers are limited to 20 entries for the standalone race, with an additional allowance of 20 SCOTIA entrants for a maximum of 40 competitors. All finishers receive a bespoke REDCAP medal; male and female champions also receive a trophy.
Race details and logistics
The event is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. The route includes four intermediate check points at approximately 10.6 miles (Lockerbie), 21.4 miles (Langholm), 32.4 miles (B709 Selkirk), and 43.1 miles (B709 Selkirk). Organisers enforce preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files, plus tracking devices with SOS, are provided to entrants and are issued to competitors ahead of the race. The event is cup-free; competitors should bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Entry fees are listed as £90 for the race or £155 for the race package that includes a shirt and hi-viz jacket; all fees are non-refundable.
