Event Overview
The MTC Nuckelavee is a 41 mile ultramarathon. It is also Day 3 of the MTC SCOTIA, which is a nine-day end-to-end challenge of Scotland. Competitors entering the Nuckelavee run alongside SCOTIA participants.
The course starts at the Travelodge Edinburgh Airport and finishes at the Travelodge Perth A9, covering a total distance of 40.1 miles. The event has a strict minimum average pace requirement of 4 mph; falling below this speed results in withdrawal. Competitor numbers are capped at 40 (20 for the Nuckelavee race and 20 for SCOTIA participants).
All finishers receive a bespoke Nuckelavee medal. The male and female champions also receive a bespoke trophy.
Logistics and Requirements
The event is cup-free; participants must bring their own reusable cup. Entrants must carry mandatory equipment, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps or a GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. Competitors will be provided with a tracking device that includes an SOS button.
The organizer enforces cut-off times at checkpoints based on the 4 mph minimum pace.
