Format, logistics and rules

The route is almost entirely on road and is revised periodically for safety. Organisers provide accommodation at the end of Day 1 through to the end of Day 16; competitors must arrange accommodation at the start location and after the finish. Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants about four weeks before the event. Real-time tracking devices with SOS function are issued to competitors.

A minimum average speed of 4 mph is enforced via preset cut-off times; competitors who fall below this and again on a consecutive day will be withdrawn. No competitor may continue on course after 22:00. The race is cup-free; competitors should bring a reusable cup. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, GPS or compass, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first-aid kit. Trail shoes are advised for a small section on Day 6 (about 4 miles). Entry options include full payment, instalments, or a charity entry with a deposit and fundraising requirement. Finishers receive a medal, a trophy and a bottle of champagne. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
