About the race
The MTC Black Shuck is a single-day ultra running event covering *45 miles*. It forms Day 10 of the MTC ALBION thirteen day end-to-end challenge of England and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. The route follows the same corridor used in the MTC JOGLE event but with reduced daily distances, running from Bridgwater through to Crediton. The event has four intermediate checkpoints located at Monkton Heathfield, Wellington, Willand and Bickleigh, with cumulative distances reported at 8.9, 19.4, 27.6 and 36.3 miles respectively.
Start and finish locations are given as Premier Inn, Bridgewater North and Union Road Moto Velo. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed approximately four weeks before the race. Field size is limited to 20 race-only places with an additional allowance of 20 ALBION competitor places for a maximum of 40 starters. The organisers enforce a minimum average pace of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn.
Cut-off times at checkpoints reflect the 4 mph minimum. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Competitors receive a Black Shuck finisher medal; male and female champions are awarded trophies. The event operates as cup free so runners should provide a reusable cup.
Entry options include a standard fee and a plus package that can include a race shirt and hi-viz jacket. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
