Christmas Cracker : Weston-super-Mare
The Christmas Cracker is an annual running event organised by Weston Athletic Club in Weston-super-Mare, held in its 38th year. Race headquarters are at The Royal Hotel Ballroom, Royal Parade, South Parade, BS23 1JP. The race start is on the beach by the Grand Pier and the Royal Hotel is about 20 minutes from the start location.
The main course is an approximate 10 km route that runs on tarmac and along the beach. The course is flat and is not suitable for wheelchairs. The event provides a lead car, race clock, distance markers, marshals, a finish water station and first aid. An event risk assessment is in place.
Facilities include chip timing, supervised kit storage at owners risk, full results published online and refreshments at the Royal Hotel. Race numbers are collected from the Royal Hotel on race day. Entry details published by the organiser include fees, a closing date and a minimum age of 16; there are no entries on the day. All finishers receive a medal.
The event raises funds for Weston Hospicecare and other local charities; in 2024 it raised over £10,000. Fancy dress is encouraged with a request that tinsel not be worn. Prizes are awarded for overall places, vet categories and fancy dress, with one prize per runner except for fancy dress. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
