MTC Beithir Overview

The MTC Beithir is a single day ultra marathon covering a total distance of 39 miles (approximately 38.5 miles recorded route distance). The course starts at Forces Manor in Kingussie and concludes at the Travelodge in Inverness. The route features a total ascent of 2,256 ft and a descent of 2,978 ft.

This event is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series and serves as day six of the SCOTIA nine day end-to-end challenge across Scotland. Participants in the single day Beithir event run alongside those completing the full multi-day series. The race has a restricted field, with a maximum capacity of 40 competitors.

Course Logistics and Requirements

The race is a cup-free event, meaning participants must carry their own reusable cups for hydration at aid stations. Monitoring of progress is managed via tracking devices provided to each runner, which include an SOS function. Entrants receive GPX files and route maps four weeks prior to the event to assist with navigation. There is a mandatory minimum pace requirement of 4 mph maintained throughout the course. Support stations are located at approximately:

  • 9.5 miles (Boat of Garten)
  • 19.1 miles (Inverness)
  • 28.3 miles (National Cycle Route 7)
