MTC BEITHIR - Ultra Running
The MTC BEITHIR is an approximately 39 mile ultra run that forms Day 6 of the nine day Mount to Coast SCOTIA end to end challenge. The route runs from Forces Manor, Kingussie to Travelodge Inverness and includes three main check points at roughly 9.5 miles, 19.1 miles and 28.3 miles. Total ascent and descent are listed as 2,256 ft and 2,978 ft respectively.
Entry is limited to 20 places plus an additional allowance of 20 places for SCOTIA competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. The event has preset cut off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants and are emailed four weeks before the event. Competitors are tracked by a device supplied by the organiser which includes an SOS function.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The race is cup free so competitors must bring a reusable cup. Finishers receive a bespoke BEITHIR medal and male and female champions receive trophies that are currently in design. All entries and payments are non refundable, with an option at checkout to add personal cancellation insurance. The MTC BEITHIR is the first edition of this race.
