Event overview

The MTC BEITHIR is a new ultra running event on 1 June 2028. The race is listed as 39 miles (route total given as 38.5 miles) and is the sixth day of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA end-to-end challenge. Ascent is 2,256 ft and descent is 2,978 ft. All finishers receive a bespoke BEITHIR medal. Male and female champions receive trophies; the trophies are still in design.

Route and logistics

The route starts at Forces Manor, Kingussie, and finishes at Travelodge Inverness, Stonyfield. Check-points are located at Boat of Garten (about 9.5 miles), Inverness (about 19.1 miles) and National Cycle Route 7, Inverness (about 28.3 miles). The event is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. Example checkpoint food items include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants by email about four weeks before the event. Real-time tracking is provided and each competitor receives a tracking device with an SOS function.

Entry, limits and rules

Entry fee options are £90.00 for standard entry or £155.00 for the plus package, which includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. Payments are non-refundable. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 plus an additional 20 for SCOTIA entrants (maximum 40). Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. The organisers enforce a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food (two chocolate bars) and a basic first aid kit.
