Event Overview
The MTC Angelystor is a 37.6-mile ultramarathon held on the Isle of Anglesey. It is the first day of the six-day MTC CYMRUN challenge, an end-to-end crossing of Wales. The race is a quadrennial event, meaning it occurs once every four years; following the 2026 edition, the next will be in 2030. The field is limited to a total of 40 competitors.
Course Details
The point-to-point route starts at the Boathouse Hotel in Holyhead and finishes at the Travelodge in Caernarfon. Almost the entire course follows National Cycle Route 8. There is approximately one mile at the start not on this path. The route has an ascent of 1,980 feet and a descent of 1,973 feet.
Key Information
There are three checkpoints along the route at RAF Valley Park (7.8 miles), Bethel (16.8 miles), and Gaerwen (25.2 miles). The event operates a strict 4 mph minimum pace requirement; competitors falling below this average will be withdrawn. Each competitor must carry mandatory kit including a head torch, map, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, and basic first aid supplies. The event is cup-free, so runners must bring their own reusable cup.
Participant Details
All finishers receive a bespoke Angelystor medal. Male and female champions also receive a trophy. An optional upgraded entry includes an embroidered race shirt and a hi-viz jacket, but must be purchased at least four weeks before the event. Entry fees are non-refundable, but a deferral option to the following year is available for a fee up to four weeks before race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
