Event overview
The MTC Angelystor is a new ultra event scheduled for 14 April 2026. It is a quadrennial race that will next return in 2030. The race is the first day of the six-day MTC CYMRUN end-to-end challenge of Wales and forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. The advertised race distance is approximately 37.6 miles with about 1,980 ft of ascent and 1,973 ft of descent. This is the first edition.
Route and logistics
The route largely follows National Cycle Route 8 from Holyhead to Caernarfon, starting near the Boathouse Hotel, Holyhead and finishing at the Travelodge, Caernarfon. Checkpoints are listed along the route with cumulative distances: CP1 at RAF Valley Park (about 7.8 miles), CP2 at Bethel (around 16.8 miles), CP3 at Gaerwen (about 25.2 miles) and the finish at Caernarfon (about 37.5 miles). Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants and emailed approximately four weeks before the event. Organisers supply tracking devices with SOS capability and real-time tracking is available during the race.
Entry, rules and kit
Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors plus up to 20 CYMRUN competitors (maximum 40). Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. The event is cup-free; runners should bring a reusable cup. A minimum average speed of 4 mph is enforced and competitors falling below this may be withdrawn. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit. All finishers receive a bespoke Angelystor medal; male and female champions will receive trophies. Entry fees are published for both the standard race and a plus package that includes clothing.
