MTC Angelystor
The MTC Angelystor is a quadrennial ultra running event introduced in 2026. The single-day route covers approximately 37.6 miles and follows National Cycle Route 8 for most of the distance, with a short deviation of around one mile at the start near the Boathouse Hotel in Holyhead and a finish at Travelodge Caernarfon. Total ascent is listed at about 1,980 ft with a similar descent.
The race is Day 1 of the six-day Mount to Coast CYMRUN end-to-end of Wales; competitors in the Angelystor run alongside CYMRUN entrants on the same day. Entry is limited to 20 regular places with an additional allowance of 20 places for CYMRUN competitors, giving a maximum of 40 starters.
The event enforces preset cut-off points based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only, typically emailed four weeks before the event. Organisers issue tracking devices with real-time tracking and SOS functionality.
Mandatory equipment includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, the supplied route maps, a compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food, and a waterproof map case. The race is cup-free so competitors must use a reusable cup. All finishers receive an Angelystor medal and male and female champions receive trophies.
