Event Overview
The Wicklow Way Race is an ultramarathon held in County Wicklow on July 24, 2026. The race follows the Wicklow Way route from Clonegal, County Carlow to Marlay Park in Dublin.
Course Details
The point-to-point course covers a distance of 127 km with an ascent of 3665 m. It has a maximum time allowance of 21 hours. Five ITRA points are allocated to finishers. The route is marked only at major junctions, and GPS devices are allowed.
Mandatory Kit & Rules
Runners must carry Level C mandatory kit, which includes items like a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket, waterproof leg cover, means to carry water, emergency food, a map, and a compass. Random kit checks may be conducted. Runners must follow the Wicklow Way route and any diversions as signposted on race day. The race is part of the Irish Ultra Championships. Race entry is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Race Format
The race starts in Clonegal. Participants can race solo or with a crew, but no assistance is allowed outside of official checkpoints. Drop bags will be transported to designated aid stations. Support runners are permitted from the Glendalough checkpoint onwards under specific conditions. They must be IMRA members for insurance purposes, and their participation means the runner is out of prize contention. Support runners cannot carry the participant's mandatory kit.
Prizes & Recognition
Wicklow Way Yellow Person Trophies are awarded to the first male and female finishers, who also receive a return entry for the 2026 race. All finishers within the allotted time receive a memento made of Wicklow granite. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
