Wicklow Way Race
The Wicklow Way Race is an ultra-distance mountain race scheduled for Friday 24 July 2026. The route follows the Wicklow Way from Marlay Park, Dublin, through the Wicklow Hills to finish in Clonegal, County Carlow.
The course distance is 127 km with 3,665 m of climb and is graded as Extreme. Only major junctions are waymarked and GPS use is permitted. The event has a maximum time allowance of 21 hours and awards 5 ITRA points to finishers. Race entry is non-refundable and non-transferable. Runners must follow the Wicklow Way route as signposted on the day, including any official diversions.
Mandatory Level C kit must be carried and may be finalised at registration. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, emergency foil blanket or bivvy, full waterproof leg cover, a means to carry a minimum of 500 mL water, emergency food, map and compass. Random kit checks may be carried out and failure to carry required items can lead to denial of entry or disqualification.
Participants may race solo or with a crew; assistance is only permitted at official checkpoints and breaching this rule results in disqualification. Support runners are permitted under specified checkpoint conditions, must be IMRA members for insurance, may not carry mandatory kit, and participants running with a support runner are not eligible for prize placings. Drop bags are transported to aid stations with early checkpoints limited to disposable food and later checkpoints accepting clothing and footwear for transfer to the finish. Winners receive Wicklow Way Yellow Person trophies and a return entry for 2027; all finishers within the allotted time receive a Wicklow granite memento.
