Mountain Man Memorial March : Event overview
The 19th Annual Mountain Man Memorial March is scheduled for April 10–11, 2026 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Organizers plan to host Gold Star Families and hold a Gold Star Family ceremony on April 10 in the Mills Auditorium at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Organizers are working with the City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County Schools to keep the race start and finish at Pi Beta Phi Elementary School (125 Cherokee Orchard Rd, Gatlinburg, TN). The event is run by a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, EIN 88-1395928, incorporated in Tennessee.
Race formats, categories and course
The event offers both run and march programs, plus virtual options. Distances include:
- Full Marathon - 26.2mi
- Half Marathon - 13.1mi
- 10K Run - 6.2mi
- 5K Run - 3.1mi
- March distances - 26.2mi and 13.1mi
March entries are available as individuals or five-person teams and are divided into civilian and military categories. March categories include Heavy and Light classes with uniform and rucksack weight requirements. Military-category competitors must be affiliated with a military organization; civilians may not register in military categories. Virtual participants receive the same race shirt and participant medal but are not eligible for placing. The route goes through Gatlinburg and into the Smoky Mountains over paved and gravel roads and other uneven terrain with flat stretches, rolling hills and steep climbs.
