Event overview

The Tsali Ultra is an annual trail race held on January 17, 2026, in the Tsali Recreation Area in the Nantahala National Forest near Bryson City, North Carolina. The event includes multiple distances and is classified as a Mountain, Ultra, Trail (MUT) race. Good Endurance Running hosts the event and will host the NC USATF 50 km Trail Championships in conjunction with the Tsali 50K.

Course and logistics

The course uses the Tsali Trail system and routes run alongside Fontana Lake with views of the Great Smoky Mountains. The Tsali Recreation Area includes single track and former logging roads across four loops that total about 40 miles of trail. Aid stations are provided along the course; none of the aid stations can be reached by runner personal support crews.

Cut-offs and competition awards

Time limits for completion are published by distance: the 8K allows 7 hours, the 30K allows 8 hours, and the 50K allows 9.5 hours. The NC USATF 50K Trail Championship will offer prize money for Open and Masters divisions: $200 for first, $150 for second, and $100 for third. Eligibility for those awards requires a 2026 USATF membership and at least 12 months of North Carolina residence. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
