Tsali Ultra : event summary
Tsali Ultra is a trail running event held at the Tsali Recreation Area on Tsali Road in Bryson City, North Carolina. The event offers three trail distances, all run on marked courses through single- and multi-loop trail systems.
- 8K - 4.34 miles trail race
- 30K - 16.81 miles trail race
- 50K - 30.1 miles trail race
Courses include looped sections and some small stream crossings; depending on recent rain, feet may get wet. The 50K and 30K are classified as mountain, ultra, trail events (MUT). Course cutting is prohibited and runners who stray must retrace their steps to rejoin the course. Cutoff limits apply by distance: the 8K has 7 hours, the 30K has 8 hours, and the 50K has 9.5 hours to complete the course.
Aid stations provide water, sport drink, PB&J, fruit, gels, snacks and occasional hot broth or sodas. The race is cupless; runners must carry their own cup or container for most liquids. Most aid stations cannot be accessed by personal support crews; one 50K aid station allows crew access. 50K runners have access to a midrace drop bag checkpoint; bags must be small and clearly labeled.
Parking is very limited. Pets are not permitted on event grounds. Packet pickup occurs at the boat parking lot on race day; early packet pickup is not available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
