Event Overview
The Morgantown Running Turkey Trot is a family-oriented event held annually on Thanksgiving Day in Morgantown, West Virginia. The event features a point-to-point course that accommodates both competitive and recreational participants.
The available distances include:
- 5 km Run
- 5 km Walk
- 800 m Kids Turkey Fun Run
The 5 km course begins on the blue track at the WVU Coliseum. Participants complete nearly a full lap of the track before exiting onto Mon Blvd. The route continues through the local streets, passing landmarks such as the Seneca Center. The final two miles of the course utilize the rail trail, leading to the finish line located behind the Seneca Center at Morgantown Running. Participants who register for the walk category must walk the entire distance; running is prohibited in the walking division.
The 800 m Kids Turkey Fun Run is open to children under 12 years of age. This race consists of two laps around the blue track at the start location. It is conducted in two separate heats based on age: one for children under 5 and another for those aged 5-12.
For logistical convenience, a shuttle service operates between the start at the WVU Coliseum and the finish at the Seneca Center. Amenities include a pair of socks for the first 1,000 registered participants and random prize drawings. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in the 5 km run, as well as the top male and female walkers. No dogs are permitted on the course.
