Event overview
The Moray Way Relay is a team relay covering the full Moray Way route, a distance of 100 miles (approximately). Teams of up to four runners share the distance, and teams with fewer than four members may allocate more legs to each runner. Entry is limited to 30 teams. The race has a 24 hour cutoff and an early bird team entry price of £150. Entrants must be at least 16 years old. The organiser provides GPX files and maps for the full route.
Format and logistics
The course is divided into 12 sections with handovers at specific checkpoints. Each team must assign every member at least three legs. The organiser states a minimum individual distance of 18 km. A tracker is issued and used as the team baton to allow accurate tracking of runners. Teams can use up to four vehicles to move between checkpoints; handover locations and GPX files show checkpoint positions.
Route, categories and other details
The route starts and finishes in Forres, follows the Moray Coastal Trail to Spey Bay, continues on the Speyside Way to Grantown-on-Spey, then returns to Forres via the Dava Way. The route includes coastal trails, forests, hills and sandy beaches. There are three categories: All Men, All Women, and Mixed (two or more women). Divisions include Open, Masters, Corporate, and Military/Public Service. Some night running is expected. The final leg from Sanquhar to Forres may be run by the whole team as an optional victory lap. There is a prize for best costume. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
