Montauk Lighthouse Triathlon : July 19, 2026, Montauk Lighthouse, Montauk, NY
The Montauk Lighthouse Triathlon is a USAT-sanctioned sprint triathlon held at the Montauk Lighthouse. The course format is point-to-point for the swim with two separate transition areas for swim-to-bike and bike-to-run.
Distances:
- Swim: 0.5 mile
- Bike: 14 miles
- Run: 3.1 miles
The swim begins at Gin Beach; athletes walk about a half mile down the beach and swim back along Gin Beach. The bike course passes through Montauk and around Gosman’s Dock and includes rolling terrain with several climbs. The run finishes near the historic Lighthouse and requires an uphill approach to the finish.
Important race procedures include ChampionChip electronic timing (chips are issued on race morning and must be worn on the ankle and returned at the finish), body marking and visible race numbers on helmet, bike, and run. Wetsuit rules follow USAT temperature guidelines; wearing a wetsuit in certain temperature ranges affects award eligibility. Cut-off times are set for each leg: swim 30 minutes, bike 1 hour 40 minutes, run 2 hours 30 minutes from each wave or race start as applicable.
Packet pick-up is available at pre-race locations and on race morning for an additional fee. Shuttle buses run between the finish/Lighthouse parking area and the swim start; shuttles restrict pets and bicycles and require car seats for infants.
Awards include overall top three and age-group prizes; first place overall receives a complimentary entry for next year. Registration fees vary by date and category and are listed for USAT members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
