The course runs through an undisturbed coastal mountain habitat with groves of huckleberry, honeysuckle, lilac, chinquapin and manzanita, and offers views of the Pacific Coast. Course markings include ribbon placed approximately every 200 yards and polka-dot flagging to indicate turns; blue ribbons mark wrong ways. If a runner does not see their color marking for several minutes they may be off course.
Elevation gain and surface by distance are provided by the organizer, for example the 10K lists 1,200 feet gain and is mostly single track while the 50K lists 6,700 feet gain and is mainly single track. All events have a nine hour time limit. Drop bags are allowed for the 20 mile, marathon and 50K at the start and finish.
The event is cupless; runners are asked to carry their own fluid container. Aid stations are fully stocked every six to seven miles with fruit, salty snacks, candy, water and Skratch electrolyte drink. Headphone use is restricted to dirt road sections only. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Shirts are guaranteed for early registrants and all finishers receive a custom medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
