Event Overview
The Midway Shelter Winter Run / Walk takes place on December 5th, 2026, at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal in Alameda on Bay Farm Island. This annual event raises funds for homeless women and children through a partnership with the Alameda Homeless Network and Building Futures. Participants can choose between three different distances:
- 10k Run / Walk (6.2 Miles)
- 5k Run / Walk (3.1 Miles)
- 1/2 Mile Kids Run (800 Yards)
The 10k and 5k courses follow the shoreline of Bay Farm Island. The route is a flat out-and-back course that offers views of San Francisco and the Alameda Main Island. The first half of the race utilizes closed lanes on Harbor Bay Road, while the return portion transitions to the shoreline trails.
For participants aged 12 and under, the 800 yards kids fun run follows a circular loop out and back on the shoreline trail. All children participating in this distance receive a medal and a shirt.
Parking is available at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal. Following the completion of the races, snacks and drinks are provided for participants. Packet pickup is held at Lauren's Closet on Park Street in Alameda on the days leading up to the race.
The Midway Shelter has operated since 1989, offering a safe environment for women and children experiencing homelessness. All donations beyond the registration fee are tax-deductible through the Alameda Homeless Network. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
