Event Overview
The Montane Summer Spine is a non-stop race covering 268 miles along the Pennine Way trail in Britain. The course runs from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders. Participants have a time limit of 156 hours to complete the distance.
Course Details
The route follows the Pennine Way, a national trail. The total elevation gain is 10,732 metres, and the total descent is 10,941 metres. The race is unsupported, though runners may use cafes and pubs along the route. There are five main checkpoints offering services such as hot meals, sleeping areas, showers (at some), and medical support. Summer temperatures can range from approximately 0°C to 25°C.
Participation and Logistics
The entry fee is £995 per athlete, with an option to pay a deposit. The event has 150 available places. Participants must be at least 21 years old and have prior experience in similar endurance challenges, such as an ultra marathon over 80 miles or a previous Montane Challenger event.
