MLVFD Fired Up for the 4th 5K
The event is a community 5K held in Mountain Lakes with separate categories for non-public safety participants and for public safety participants (fire, police, and EMS). Pre- and post-race staging is located in the parking lot of St. Catherine of Siena (10 N Pocono Road). Limited parking is available at the church lot; additional on-street parking is available on Pocono Road, West Shore Road, and nearby neighborhood streets. Organizers request that vehicles not be parked on East Shore Road, North Crane Road, or Crane Road because those roads are part of the race course.
All day-of activities take place at the far end of the St. Catherine parking lot. These include day-of registration, bib and t-shirt pickup (for those who meet the t-shirt deadline), music, refreshments, firefighting demonstrations, and the awards ceremony and pickup. Participants proceed as a group to the start line on East Shore Road, where the course both begins and ends. The start/finish area and the first and last sections of the course have been adjusted to improve runner safety and traffic management.
Discounted entry fees are offered for fire, police, and EMS entrants. Awards are given to the fastest male and female firefighters, police, EMS, overall runners, and age group winners. Proceeds support the Mountain Lakes Volunteer Fire Department for equipment purchases and training. The course is USATF certified. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
