Miles for a Match 5K
The Miles for a Match 5K is a community sports event held in San Marcos, Texas. Organized by the Texas State University chapter of Mu Epsilon Delta in collaboration with Gift of Life, the event focuses on supporting patients battling blood cancers, including leukemia and lymphoma. The primary goal is to raise awareness and support for individuals in need of bone marrow and stem cell donors.
The event features a 5K course (3.1 miles) that accommodates participants who wish to run, jog, or walk. The registration is open to students, families, and community members of various fitness levels. A portion of the proceeds from the registration fees is donated to support Gift of Life’s mission to expand the bone marrow registry.
In addition to the running race, the event includes a variety of on-site activities. Attendees can visit local vendors and listen to live music. There are specific family-friendly activities designed for both children and adults. A dedicated information table is provided by Gift of Life, where participants have the opportunity to complete a cheek swab to register as a potential bone marrow donor.
