Michelle Bonura Memorial 5K Run/Walk
The Michelle Bonura Memorial 5K Run/Walk is an annual community road event held in Shoreham, New York. Registration is not yet open for the listed year. The event supports the Michelle Bonura Memorial Foundation and the Michelle Bonura Scholarship Fund, which grants scholarships to high school students pursuing careers in physical education and supports nonprofit organizations.
The course starts on John Street, 1,000 feet east of Miller Avenue, and finishes at the bottom of Southgate. Timing is electronic with age-graded results. All finishers receive a medal, free finish line photos, and a finisher certificate. Participants who register in time are eligible for a top quality tech shirt with a guarantee cutoff of May 15 and may receive a personalized bib if registered three weeks in advance. Refreshments are provided including bagels, pizza, bananas, ice cream, snacks, cookies, and drinks. A free raffle and multiple gift certificate prizes are offered to registered participants.
Awards include top three male and female overall (plaque and cash prizes), age-group medals across multiple brackets from 14 and under through 90 plus, masters and senior masters age-graded plaques, wheelchair awards, and team competition awards. The event features a team competition: teams must have at least three members, may be male or female, require a team captain and a team name at registration, and are scored by actual time. Bibs are available for in-person pickup at the Tesla Science Center, 5 Randall Road, Shoreham, NY 11786, or shipped for virtual participants within a window around the event.
