Michelle Bonura Memorial 5K Run/Walk
The Michelle Bonura Memorial 5K Run/Walk is an annual road event held in Shoreham with parking at the Tesla Science Center, 5 Randall Road, Shoreham, NY 11786. The course starts on John Street, 1,000 feet east of Miller Avenue, and finishes at the bottom of Southgate.
The event is organized by the Michelle Bonura Memorial Foundation, which supports nonprofit organizations and maintains the Michelle Bonura Scholarship Fund for high school students pursuing careers in physical education. Michelle Bonura was a tri-athlete, a physical education teacher for more than 35 years, and a volunteer coach at several sporting events.
Amenities for participants include finisher medals for all, electronic timing with age graded results, free finish line photos and finisher certificates, and a top quality tech shirt with a guaranteed shirt cutoff by May 15th. On-site refreshments listed for past events include bagels, pizza, bananas, ice cream, snacks, cookies, and drinks. Registered participants are entered in a free raffle with gift certificates awarded to over 50 winners; a personalized bib is available if registration occurs at least three weeks in advance. Virtual participants receive their bibs by mail within a shipping window that ranges from one week before to one week after the event.
Awards include top 3 male and female overall plaque and cash prizes, age group medals for a wide range of age divisions, masters and senior masters plaques, wheelchair awards, and team competition prizes.
