Mersey Tunnel 10K
The Mersey Tunnel 10K is an accurately measured 10 km point-to-point road race connecting Liverpool and the Wirral. The course begins on Blackstock Street, located approximately 250 metres before the Kingsway Tunnel emergency access road. After an initial sharp u-turn, participants follow a one-mile descent underneath the River Mersey. The tunnel entrance is reached at the 1 km mark, with markers for 2 km and 3 km positioned inside the tunnel structure.
At approximately 2.5 km, the descent levels off before a long ascent leads runners out of the tunnel on the Wirral side of the river. The route exits via the emergency exit before the toll booths and proceeds onto Oakdale Road, where a downhill section occurs at the 4 km point. The 5 km mark is situated at the car park behind the Mersey Ferry terminal on Birkenhead Road.
The second half of the course is flat and follows the River Mersey from the Wallasey Ferry terminal toward the finish at New Brighton. A drinks station is available near the 7 km mark at the bottom of Manor Road. The final segment takes runners along the promenade, past the Floral Pavilion and the lake pathway, before reaching the finish line on Ian Fraser Walk behind the Marine Point retail park. The event is open to participants aged 15 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
