About the race
The 9th Annual Meridian Ostomy 5k is a fun run and walk held in celebration of World Ostomy Day. The event takes place at Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian, Idaho. This 58-acre regional park features various amenities, including an amphitheater, stocked fishing ponds, and a community garden.
Participants can register for the following events:
- 5k Fun Run/Walk (Open)
- 5k Fun Run/Walk (Ostomate)
The race route is contained within the park grounds, and specific course maps are provided to participants in their registration packets. All proceeds from the event benefit the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc (UOAA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides resources and advocacy for individuals living with an ostomy or continent diversion.
Registration includes an event T-shirt, a bib with a timing chip, and a swag bag containing promotional items and educational materials. A unique aspect of this event is the inclusion of an optional ostomy pouch in the race bags. Non-ostomate participants are encouraged to wear the pouch during the run to gain perspective on the experiences of those living with an ostomy.
The event features onsite vendors and sponsors. Participants have the option to form or join race groups and teams. There is a fundraising program where individuals who raise a specific amount may receive a refund of their registration fee. Prizes are awarded to the top male and female finishers in both the open and ostomate categories. Ample free parking is available at the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
