Mercia Handicap Race
The Mercia Handicap is a fell race held at Plush Hill with the event centre at the start/finish near Plush Hill SO449964. The course distance is 5 miles with approximately 500 m total ascent and is run under the rules and safety requirements of the FRA.
Entry is by contacting the race organiser with an estimated finishing time; start times are assigned from those estimates. There is no pre-entry payment; entrants are asked to bring £10 on the day.
Competitors must comply with FRA rules and the FRA safety requirements. Mandatory kit includes waterproof top, waterproof bottoms, hat, gloves, emergency food, map, compass and whistle. Kit checks will be carried out and failure to carry required items will result in disqualification. Race numbers must be worn visibly on the chest for marshal checks.
Retirement procedure requires runners to report to the finish and surrender their race number; failing to report can trigger search responses and may lead to disciplinary action. The Race Organiser and the FRA may take disciplinary measures, including disqualification or banning, for breaches such as running in another competitor’s number, using another person’s FRA card or number, cheating on kit requirements or using GPS for navigation or fixing position.
Parking is available off the road at Plush Hill SO452963 and on the roadside where considerate parking is possible. There are no toilets at the event site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
