9th Annual Memorial Day Run
The Memorial Day Run is a commemorative event held at Hamburg Town Park in Hamburg, New York. The primary purpose of the gathering is to raise awareness for Special Operations members killed in action since September 11, 2001. The event honors the memory of SFC Ryan A. Gloyer, with proceeds directed to recipients connected to his story.
The main in-person event is organized as a pack run covering 6.85 miles. This run is led by active duty soldiers and veterans at a group pace of approximately 12 minutes per mile. Participants follow a specific protocol where no runner may pass the flag, as it represents the fallen. Participants are permitted to wear their own weighted vests during the run.
In addition to the full distance, there are three entry points at specific mile markers for walkers, joggers, or minors:
- 2.1 miles starting from the Hamburg Fire Hall water station.
- 1.5 miles starting from the Air Force Recruiting Office water station on Main Street.
- 0.7 miles starting from the 18 Mile Creek Golf Course water station.
A virtual participation option is also available, allowing participants to choose their own distance and pace. This option is designed for those outside the Buffalo area or those who prefer to run independently. The 2026 event concludes with a gathering for remembrance and camaraderie at the Hamburg Brewing Company. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
