Event Overview
The Memorial Day Flag Run is a patriotic trail event held in Black Canyon City, Arizona. The event serves as a tribute to the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces. Participants are encouraged to carry an American flag during the activity, either as individuals or as part of a team.
Course Details
The race takes place on the Black Canyon Trails, utilizing an out and back format. These scenic trails are located at the Black Canyon City Trailhead. As this is a cupless event designed to minimize waste, participants are required to bring their own hydration systems, such as handheld water bottles or hydration bladders. While emergency water is available on the course, water stations are managed by US Marine Veterans.
Participation Options
There are two primary distances available for participants to choose from:
- 5K (Run or Ruck)
- 10K (Run or Ruck)
Participants can choose to complete the course as a traditional trail run or in the Ruck division. Those entering the Ruck division follow the standards of the Bataan Memorial Death March, which requires both men and women to carry a pack with an added weight of 35 lbs. This weight includes only the pack and the weighted items, excluding food and water.
Community Support
A portion of the proceeds and all additional donations from the event are directed to the Anthem - Daisy Mountain Veterans. This non-profit organization supports former and active duty service members and their families through community programs and veteran advocacy.
