Megunticook Trail Festival
The Megunticook Trail Festival is a set of three trail races held in Camden, Maine, inside Camden Hills State Park. The event uses park trails that include ledges, brooks, and multiple summits; Mount Megunticook rises to 1,385 feet above sea level and offers views of Penobscot Bay. The festival is organized by Megunticook50 and entries are limited. Registration fees include a bib, a t-shirt, a swag item, and a post-race meal. Refunds are not issued, but deferrals are granted for pregnancy or for those who volunteer.
Race distances:
- 50K: traverses over 90% of park trails, over 7,600 ft elevation gain
- 20k (Halfast): mainly wide gravel trail, 1,900 ft elevation, 3.9 km singletrack
- 10k (Wicked Tough): mostly singletrack, about 1,600 ft elevation, ledge views to the ocean
Course notes: the 50K crosses six significant peaks in the park and includes steep, rocky, and rooty sections. The 20k follows a multi-use gravel trail with one summit at Cameron Mountain and has two aid stations, one passed twice. The 10k includes open ledge sections with coastal views and significant climbing. All courses are marked but runners remain responsible for staying on course.
The event acknowledges that it is held on the ancestral, unceded lands of the Wabanaki Nations and invites Indigenous peoples to run free of charge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
