Megunticook Trail Festival
The Megunticook Trail Festival stages three trail races in Camden Hills State Park in MidCoast, Maine. Races take place on routes that pass through the park and around Mount Megunticook, which rises 1,385 feet above sea level and provides views of Penobscot Bay and the open ocean. Mount Megunticook is described as the second highest mountain along the Atlantic Coast by 175 feet.
Distances include:
- 10K Wicked Tough 10: steep singletrack, 1600 feet vertical gain.
- 20K Halfast 20k: mainly wide gravel trail, suitable to test speed.
- 50K Megunticook 50: traverses over 90% of trails in the park.
Entries are limited. The Halfast 20k takes place mainly on wide gravel trail and is positioned as an introductory option or a race to test speed, while the Wicked Tough 10 and Megunticook 50 use more technical singletrack and a broader share of the park's trails.
The festival is held on the ancestral, unceded lands of the Wabanaki Nations. “Megunticook” means “great swells of the sea.” All Indigenous peoples are invited to run free of charge, and registrants may donate to Niweskok, a Wabanaki-led organization focused on food sovereignty, healing, and community connections.
