Capital for a Day 2026 - Olney, Maryland
Capital for a Day is a 5K run that commemorates August 14, 1814, when Brookeville served as the United States capital for one day during the War of 1812. The event starts at Rosa Parks Middle School in Olney, just south of Brookeville, and the 5K runs on neighborhood streets. Roads will not be closed for the race, so participants are asked to remain aware of traffic.
The program includes youth runs of 0.25 mile and 0.5 mile in addition to the 5K.

Non-members pay a registration fee of $22 for participants ages 18 and over and $11.60 for participants under 18. Online registration remains open on race day and bib and chip pickup takes place on race morning.
