2026 Drumstick Turkey Trot 5k & 8 Miler
The Drumstick Turkey Trot is a holiday event held at Gravelly Point in Arlington. This event takes place on Thanksgiving morning and features a course along the Mount Vernon Trail. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5 km
- 8 miles
The 8 miles course is a paved out-and-back route that travels north to Teddy Roosevelt Island. The terrain is described as fairly flat with no major elevation gains. There are four water stations positioned along the 8 miles route at approximately mile markers 1.55, 2.8, 5.2, and 6.45. The 5 km course includes one water station at the 1.55-mile mark. Gatorade is available at selected stations.
All participants receive a finisher's medal, a technical drifit event shirt, and chip timing. Walkers and strollers are permitted to participate. For those unable to attend the physical location, a virtual run option is available. The event is held in partnership with the John P. Mayhugh Foundation, an organization focused on brain health and recovery outcomes.
Points earned during this event contribute to the Year-Long 5k, 10k, and Back of the Pack Series, as well as the Fall Series. Awards are presented to the top three overall men and women, along with the top two finishers in several age categories ranging from 19 and under to 70 and over.
