McHenry Lakefront 5K & Kids Fun Run
The event on July 11, 2026 takes place at Petersen Park, 4300 Petersen Park Rd, McHenry, IL. It includes a chip-timed, USATF certified 5K and short children’s races for ages 3 to 8. Distances offered:
- 3.1 miles - McHenry Lakefront 5K
- 50 m (ages 3-5) and 100 m (ages 6-8) - Kids Fun Run
The 5K course leaves Petersen Park Beach, follows the Prairie Trail, and goes through the Lakeland Park neighborhood. The route is described as shaded and flat. Timing is electronic with chip timing and the course holds USATF certification.
Registration opens on 2025-08-28 and closes on 2026-07-09. The registration fee listed is $25.00 for the 5K and $12.00 for the Kids Fun Run. The fee includes a shirt while supplies last.
Awards include recognition for the top overall male and female finishers in the 5K and medals for the top three male and female finishers within age groups from 9 & under up to 70 & over. Kids Fun Run awards include medals for the top three in each distance and a runner medal for all participants.
Check-in is available from 7:00 am to 7:45 am. Bib and shirt pickup is available Friday 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the McHenry Recreation Center, 3636 Municipal Drive, McHenry, or on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
