Master Kim's Scholarship Fundraiser 5K
This event is an annual fundraiser in Webster, NY, organized to support a Taekwondo scholarship fund for high school students. It features a community 5k run and a children's 1 mile run. Events are timed and all in person participants receive a medal; winners in each division receive trophies. There is also a virtual participation option.
Each event offers a standard package that includes a medal and a deluxe package that includes a medal and an event shirt. The children's one mile is intended for ages 4 to 12. Children aged 4 to 6 may be accompanied on the course by one adult guide over 13 years old without charge. The children"s mile is competitive and ranked by age level.
The course for the in person event is on grass at Webster and the organizer notes basic safety rules for the kids course: pass without pushing, be aware of surroundings, and wear appropriate sports gear with sneakers only on the course.
The scholarship supported by the event provides funds to several high school students each year. Eligible applicants include Taekwondo rising juniors, seniors, and college freshmen. The scholarship fund has awarded over $76,000 to date.
