Marathon Eryri
Marathon Eryri is an annual running event held in the Eryri National Park in Wales. Established in 1982, the race was created as a scenic alternative to traditional city road races. The event reaches its 42nd edition in 2026.
The course follows a demanding route that encircles Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), which is the highest peak in both Wales and England. The event centre and registration are located at the former Electric Mountain Visitor Centre in Llanberis. Due to the nature of the geography and the time of year, participants are advised to carry body cover to prepare for potentially challenging weather conditions.
The event features the following distances:
- 42.2 km (Marathon)
- Junior races
Registration takes place on the Friday preceding the race from midday until 10:00 pm and continues on Saturday morning. The start line is situated on the A4086 just outside Llanberis, while the finish line is located within the village itself. Participants are encouraged to use public transport via Bangor railway station or car-share to reduce carbon emissions.
Prizes are awarded to the top five male and female finishers, as well as winners in age categories ranging from O40 to O80. Special awards are also given to the first local finishers and top teams. A race record prize of £1000 is available for any runner who breaks the standing course record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
