Event overview
Marathon Eryri is a marathon event around Snowdon. The race traces a route that encircles Snowdon, described as Wales’ and England’s highest peak. The event traces its origins to an inaugural Snowdonia Marathon held in 1982 and has been run annually since then. The finish is in Llanberis and the race start is just outside the village on the A4086.
Logistics and prizes
Registration is at the car park area of the former Electric Mountain Visitor Centre in Llanberis (LL55 4TA) at the Marathon Eryri event centre. Registration is open on the day before the race and on race morning, and race packs are issued at registration. Runners may park in several Pay Display car parks near the village. The organisers advise carrying some form of body cover because of potentially challenging weather. The nearest railway station is Bangor; there are frequent bus services between Bangor and Llanberis and between Caernarfon and Llanberis.
Several road closures and traffic measures are in place on race day, including a rolling closure of the Llanberis Pass (A4086), a closure of part of Llanberis High Street, a closure at Bryn Goleu, and a one-way system on sections of the A498. Prizes are commissioned by local artists and awarded in male and female categories (places 1st to 5th), age-category first places (O40, O45, O50, O60, O70, O80), first local, and first team (three to count). A cash prize of £1000 is offered to any competitor who breaks the race record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
