Event
Marathon Eryri is an annual marathon first held in 1982. The course encircles Snowdon, described as Wales’ and England’s highest peak. The race finishes in Llanberis and uses the village and surrounding roads for its route.
Logistics and travel
Registration takes place at the car park area of the former Electric Mountain Visitor Centre, Llanberis LL55 4TA. Registration opens the day before the race and again on the morning of race day when race packs are issued. Runners are advised to carry some form of body cover because weather at this time of year can be challenging. Pay display car parks are available around the village. Directions note easy access from the A55 and connections from the M56, A5 and A470. Distances by road to Llanberis are given as 66 miles from Chester, 103 miles from Manchester and 270 miles from London. The nearest railway station is Bangor, with bus services to Llanberis and Caernarfon. The nearest airports cited are Liverpool and Manchester, both about two hours away by car. Road closures and a one-way system are used on parts of the course on race day.
Prizes and awards
Prizes are awarded in male and female categories for places 1st to 5th, age-category first places (O40, O45, O50, O60, O70, O80), a first local award and a first team award (three to count). A cash prize of £1000 is offered for anyone who breaks the race record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
