Manhattan Irish Fest Parade 5k
The Manhattan Irish Fest Parade 5k is a road race held in Manhattan, Illinois, in cooperation with the Irish American Society of County Will. This event takes place as part of the local Irish Fest celebration. The 5k course is fast and flat, utilizing the official parade route. It begins at the intersection of North and Thelma streets near St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and concludes at Second Street and Eastern Avenue near Anna McDonald Elementary School.
Participants are supported by course marshals and a sweeper vehicle that maintains a 20-minute per mile pace. Timing mats are located at both the start and finish lines to ensure accurate recording of results. Following the race, an awards ceremony is held in the main festival tent. Trophies are awarded to overall male and female winners, as well as overall Masters (40 and over). Age group medals are provided for the top three finishers in categories ranging from 14 and under to 80 and over, with younger participants receiving participation awards at the finish line.
Logistics for the event include a shuttle bus service. Due to limited street parking during the parade, participants are advised to park at the Metra station on Sweedler Road, where buses transport runners to the starting area. The registration fee includes admission to the festival tent, which features live music, Irish dancing, and bagpipe performances. Runners also receive a coupon for a beverage and access to post-race snacks and water. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
