Event details
The Catch the Elf 5k & 10k is the inaugural running event on December 20, 2025, at 4000 W 155th St, Markham, IL 60428. The event includes two distances:
- 5k
- 10k
Registration fees listed are $35 for the 5k and $40 for the 10k; prices increase after December 6, 2025 at 11:59pm CST. The event benefits the Toy Box Connection children’s charity.
Race format and race-day services
Each race will have its own race elf that receives a 1 minute 30 second head start; finishing before the elf yields a special prize. The 10k repeats the 5k course twice. Both races are chip timed and will award the Top 3 overall plus the top 3 males and females in various age groups. There will be no awards ceremony; award winners must pick up awards before leaving the race site.
Packet pickup is available on Friday, December 19 at Running for Kicks (7158 W. 127th Street, Palos Heights) from noon to 6:00pm, and on race morning starting at 7:30am. A gear check will be provided. Live results will be posted online at ilpreptoptiming.com. A long-sleeve shirt is included with registration.
Additional activities include a kids race for ages 8 and younger, Santa on site to hear children’s Christmas wishes, and a Secret Santa exchange for wrapped running-related gifts valued $10–$15 (turned in at packet pickup; selection is first come, first serve; no exchanges). Toy Box Connection requests gift cards from Amazon or Target and suggests Legos as useful donations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
