Event Overview
The Malvern Hills Ultra offers several race distances, starting and finishing at Abberley Village Hall in Worcestershire. Entrants can choose between four options:
- 47 miles with a total ascent of 2,941 metres.
- 38 miles
- 31 miles
- 23 miles
The event follows the Worcestershire Way, a signposted route. A GPX file is provided for navigation, and free downloadable maps and route directions are available from the organizer's website.
Course and Logistics
The full 47-mile route is an out-and-back course from Abberley Village Hall, predominantly following the Worcestershire Way to a turn at Sally’s Place on British Camp. The other distances start at subsequent checkpoints along the same route. The event uses a chip-timing system.
Five checkpoints are available on the longest route, providing water and nutrition. The event is "cup-free," so participants must bring their own reusable cup. Competitors must carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, map or GPS device, compass, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food, and a basic first aid kit.
Participant Information
All competitors must be 20 years of age or over on race day. Finishers receive an official Malvern Hills Ultra medal and a choice of a technical T-shirt, mug, or hat. A food pack is provided at the finish.
The event offers "Time Lords" : experienced ultra-runners who run at designated paces (11-hour, 12-hour, and 13-hour paces) to assist with navigation and pacing for other participants. A transport option to the various start locations for the shorter distances is available for an additional fee.
Entry fees include a contribution to the Malvern Hills Trust for the upkeep of the paths. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
