Event details

The Malvern Hills Ultra takes place on 2 May 2026 at Abberley Village Hall, WR6 6AZ. Entrants can choose from the following distances:

  • 47 miles
  • 38 miles
  • 31 miles
  • 23 miles

The full route is an out-and-back that predominantly follows the Worcestershire Way and turns at Sally’s Place, British Camp. The 47 mile course records ascent of 2,941 m and descent of 2,941 m (just under 10,000 ft). A GPX file, downloadable maps and written directions are provided and are used for navigation. The course is self-navigation with WW signage; event pacers called “Timelords” run at set target times to assist navigation.

Logistics, rules and provisions

All entries are non-refundable. Entry fees listed are: 47 mile £95, 38 mile £85, 31 mile £80, 23 mile £70. Transport to start locations can be arranged for a fee. Checkpoint provision varies by distance: the longest race uses five checkpoints; shorter races use fewer. Checkpoint distances include 7.3 miles, 7.4 miles and 9 miles between key points on the out leg. Cut-offs and an overall maximum race allowance of 13 hours apply; competitors outside checkpoint cut-offs will not continue.

Mandatory kit includes a backpack, Ordnance Survey Map 150 (or downloadable maps), compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, two energy bars and a basic first-aid kit. All entrants must be 20 years or older. Finishers receive a bespoke MHU medal and a commemorative item such as a technical T-shirt, mug or hat.
