Maine Running Hall of Fame 5K in Memory of Julius Marzul
The Maine Running Hall of Fame 5K is a community running and walking event in Portland, Maine, held in memory of Julius Marzul (1926-2004). The race donates proceeds to the Maine Running Hall of Fame and notes that Julius Marzul was a World War II veteran and a 28-year runner who died near the finish of the Maine Half Marathon on October 3, 2004.
The event uses a counter-clockwise loop around Back Cove, starting at the Back Cove soccer fields and finishing at 84 Baxter Boulevard. The race offers shirts distributed by May 10th, awards in overall, age group, and team categories, and cash prizes for overall winners. A free pizza buffet is provided at Otto's Pizza, 250 Read Street, Portland. Entry fee tiers listed by the organizer include a wicked early-bird price of $26, an early-bird price of $29 through April 1, a standard price of $34 thereafter, and a packet pickup or race day registration price of $39 at Marathon Sports Portland.
The organizer states there are no refunds. In the event of catastrophic weather, a public health crisis, or extreme events beyond management control, the race may be moved to an alternate date or changed to a virtual event where participants run the course and submit results on their own.
