Mahiingan Family Road Race - FASD Awareness

The Mahiingan Family Road Race is a community event held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Kiwanis Bandshell in North Bay, ON. Organized by Anishinabek Nation & The North Bay Indigenous Hub, the event promotes awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and aims to reduce stigma while encouraging physical activity for families.

The event is rain or shine and features vendors, games, music and prizes. Light refreshments are provided for participants. There are opening ceremonies and community partners are involved, including local Indigenous organizations and health and social service groups.

Participants may choose from several course distances:

  • 1 km run or walk
  • 5 km run or walk
  • 9 km run or walk

The description of FASD provided at the event notes it is a lifelong disability that affects the brain and body of people exposed to alcohol before birth; studies referenced in the event information note population estimates related to diagnosis and prenatal alcohol exposure. Multiple community partners support the event and its educational focus on reducing stigma and improving supports for people living with FASD. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
