Lyke Wake Walk : guided and supported crossing
The Lyke Wake Walk crosses the North York Moors at its widest and highest points. The route runs between Scarth Wood Moor near Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast, covering just under 39 miles of moorland. The challenge is to walk from one marker to the opposite marker within a maximum of 24 hours; typical guided groups take 15 to 18 hours to complete the crossing.
Organisers provide guided and supported group crossings in both directions. Groups are limited to a maximum of 14 walkers, with typical group sizes of 10 to 12; larger bookings are supported by additional guides. All guides are appropriately qualified, hold first aid training and have insurance. Support measures include minibus transfers to the start, supplied water, sugar-based snacks, blister plasters, a full kit list and a training schedule. Each date has a WhatsApp group for training tips and participant communication, and free guided training walks are offered on the moors, coast and dales.
Entry is fee based: £110 per person with a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure a place and the remaining balance due six weeks before the walk. When an event is full, a waiting list is used and places are offered to waiting entrants if they become available. Private guided groups can be arranged.
