Stately Trails: Aske
Aske Hall is a Georgian country house with parkland attributed to Capability Brown, located 1.5 miles north of Richmond, North Yorkshire. The private estate contains a John Carr stable block converted into a chapel with Italianate decor, a Gothic-style folly circa 1745, a coach house with carriage, a Victorian stable block, a walled garden, terraced gardens and a lake with a Roman-style temple.
The event offers trail races and a walk on the estate. Distances available:
- 5 km race
- 10 km race
- 5 km walk
Both race routes use a single loop. The route runs across pasture fields, farm tracks and through woodland. The course is described as fairly flat by organiser standards but may be muddy and uneven in places; trail shoes are recommended. The 10 km course has one water station at the start of the second lap; 5 km runners have water available at the finish. Toilets are provided at Race HQ.
Course markings include orange barrier tape, pin flags and coloured arrow signs; critical turns and road crossings will be marshalled. Course markings can be moved or removed, so carrying a copy of the route map is recommended. Parking is located by the stable block with additional parking in a field on the estate. Registration takes place near the stables and is managed by marshals. There is no mandatory kit requirement. Poles are banned for this event.
Age limits and entry cap are specified: entrants must be 16 or older for the 10 km and 13 or older for the 5 km. The event is limited to 200 runners. A code of conduct covers respect for volunteers, staying on marked trails, passing etiquette including announcing "on your left", and giving uphill runners right of way.
