MindOverMoors Esk Valley Way Ultra
The event is an ultra running race covering 36 miles along the entire Esk Valley Way, tracing the River Esk from its upland source near Castleton to Whitby Harbour beneath the Abbey ruins. The route passes through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, the remains of Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont. Total ascent is listed as 4,054.
Start and registration are planned at Castleton cricket pitch, subject to local fixtures. The race is fully tracked with supplied trackers and premium OpenTracking GPS monitoring that provides live timing and splits. The course is waymarked with Esk Valley signs and GPX and Strava routes are available; tape will be used in areas of possible confusion. A route is also available in OS via OpenTracking.
Support includes first aid medical cover and five checkpoints, each with basic food and drinks and toilet facilities either on site or in the village. A non returnable food drop bag option is available at the midway checkpoint. Facilities include free parking and the possibility to use the Esk Valley train line to return vehicles. Finishers receive a medal and podium prizes are listed alongside an optional technical tee. The event has an age limit of 20 or older and entries are limited.
