MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
The MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra is a long-distance running event held in North Yorkshire. The route follows the entirety of the Esk Valley Way, tracing the River Esk from its upland source to the coast. The course covers 36 miles with a total ascent of 4,054 feet.
The race starts at the Castleton cricket pitch and proceeds through the diverse landscapes of the North York Moors. Runners pass through several notable locations, including:
- Danby Dale
- Rosedale Head
- Blakey Ridge
- Westerdale
- Glaisdale
- Egton Bridge
The final stretch of the course leads participants toward the sea, finishing at Whitby Harbour near the historic Abbey ruins. The event is open to runners aged 20 and older, with a maximum capacity of 100 participants. A total time limit of 14 hours is provided to complete the distance.
The course is waymarked with official Esk Valley signs, and participants are provided with GPS trackers for live timing and safety. There are five checkpoints along the route equipped with basic food, water, and toilet facilities. Additional support includes first aid and the option for a food drop-bag at the halfway point. Mandatory kit requirements include a waterproof jacket with taped seams, a survival bag, and a whistle.
Transportation options include an optional pre-race coach from the finish in Whitby to the start in Castleton. The route also aligns with the Esk Valley train line, providing access to several villages and the start/finish locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
