MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra

Event overview

MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra is scheduled for Saturday 1 August 2026 in Castleton, YO21 2AP. The event follows the official Esk Valley Way and covers a distance of 36 miles with a reported total ascent of 4,054. The race start and registration are planned at Castleton cricket pitch (subject to no home fixtures). Entries are limited to 100 and the event has a minimum age of 20 on the event date. Entries open 5 October 2025 and close 1 July 2026.

Route and navigation

The route follows the River Esk from its upland origins to Whitby Harbour, passing Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, the remains of Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont before finishing at Whitby Harbour beneath the Abbey ruins. The course is fully way marked with Esk Valley signs. GPX and Strava routes are available and Premium OpenTracking GPS tracking with live timing and splits will be used. Tape will be placed in areas of possible confusion.

Entries, fees and kit

Entry fees are listed as Affiliated £57 and Unaffiliated £59. A coach transfer option between the finish and start is available for a stated fee of £20 and must be booked at entry. An optional technical t-shirt is offered for £12. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hats and gloves (buff allowed), capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, a fully charged phone, a survival bag and a whistle.

Support and facilities

There are five checkpoints with toilet facilities either at them or in nearby villages, basic food and drinks at checkpoints, first aid medical support, and an option to leave a non-returnable food drop-bag at the mid way checkpoint. Free parking is available, toilets at start and finish, and free tea and coffee at start and finish. Finishers receive a medal and there are prizes for podium finishers.
