MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
The MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra is a long-distance running event held on the North York Moors. The course covers a distance of 36 miles and features approximately 4,054 feet of ascent. Participants must be at least 20 years old to enter, and the field is limited to 100 runners.
The route follows the official Esk Valley Way, tracing the River Esk from its upland origins to the sea. Starting at the Castleton cricket pitch, the path travels through diverse landscapes including Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, and the medieval site of Esklets. Runners pass through several villages, such as Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge, and Grosmont, before reaching the finish line at Whitby Harbour near the Abbey ruins.

The course is fully way-marked with Esk Valley signs and supplemented with tape in areas of potential confusion. GPS tracking is provided to all participants with live timing and splits. There are 5 checkpoints along the route equipped with basic food, drinks, and toilet facilities. Runners have the option to use a non-returnable food drop-bag at the midway point. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat, gloves, capacity for 500ml of fluid, a whistle, a survival bag, and a fully charged mobile phone.
Facilities at the event include free parking and toilet facilities at both the start and finish. A coach service is available for a fee to transport runners from the finish in Whitby back to the start in Castleton before the race begins. Additionally, the Esk Valley train line connects the start and finish locations for those wishing to use rail transport. All participants who complete the course receive a finishers medal, and trophies are awarded to podium finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
