MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
The MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra is a long distance trail race held on 1 August 2026. The route follows the official Esk Valley Way from Castleton to Whitby Harbour, covering 36 miles with a total ascent of 4,054. The course traces the River Esk and passes through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont before finishing at Whitby Harbour beneath the abbey ruins.
Start and registration are scheduled at Castleton cricket pitch, subject to no home fixtures. Entries are limited to 50 and the minimum age to enter is 20. Entry fees are listed as Affiliated £57 and Unaffiliated £59. Optional items include a coach transfer for a fee and an optional technical tee for purchase.
Navigation is provided by full way marking on Esk Valley signs, GPX and Strava routes, premium OpenTracking GPS tracking with live timing and splits, and taped sections where needed. Checkpoints and support include first aid, five checkpoints with toilet facilities, basic food and drinks at all checkpoints, and the option of a non-returnable food drop bag at mid route.
Mandatory kit includes:
- Waterproof jacket with taped seams
- Hat and gloves, buff allowed
- Capacity to carry 500 ml fluid
- Fully charged phone
- Survival bag
- Whistle
Facilities noted are free parking, toilet facilities at start and finish, train access along the Esk Valley line for return travel, finishers medals, prizes, complimentary tea and coffee at the start and finish, race photography, and insurance under ARC.
