MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra is a long-distance trail race held on 31 July 2027 that follows the official Esk Valley Way from Castleton to Whitby Harbour. The route covers 36 miles, tracing the River Esk from its upland source to the coast and passing through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont before the finish at Whitby Harbour beneath the Abbey ruins.
The course is fully waymarked and fully tracked with live GPS tracking and splits. There are five staffed checkpoints with food and drink and toilet facilities located approximately at 6.5, 11, 15, 23 and 30 miles; the mid-race checkpoint offers a drop-bag collection point. The event has multiple first aiders on site and first aid kits at checkpoints. There is no cut off time.
Registration and race start take place at Castleton cricket pitch. A coach transfer is offered from the finish back to the start for booked runners for a fee of £20. The Esk Valley train line serves the villages along the route and can be used to return to start or finish. Parking is available at the start and in locations around the finish.
Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hats and gloves, capacity to carry 500 ml of fluid, a survival bag and a whistle. Trackers are supplied to competitors.
