MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
This event takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The 36-mile (58 km) ultra marathon follows the full length of the Esk Valley Way footpath across the North York Moors.
The route starts in Castleton and finishes at Whitby Harbour, tracing the River Esk from its source to the sea. It passes through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge, and Grosmont. The total ascent is 4,054 feet.
The event has an entry limit of 100 participants, with a minimum age requirement of 20. A coach is available for a fee to transport runners from the finish in Whitby to the start in Castleton before the race. The route is fully waymarked, with GPX files available, and all participants are provided with a GPS tracker for live tracking. Medical support is provided.
There are five checkpoints along the route, each stocked with basic food and drinks. Toilet facilities are available at or near checkpoints. A non-returnable food drop-bag can be left at the midway point. The mandatory kit list includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, a hat, gloves, a survival bag, a whistle, a fully charged phone, and the capacity to carry 500ml of fluid.
At the finish, all finishers receive a medal. A cash prize and a bespoke trophy are awarded to the first male and female runners, with trophies for all podium finishers. A technical t-shirt is available as an optional purchase. Free tea and coffee are provided at the start and finish, along with race photography.
Free parking is available at the start. The route follows villages on the Esk Valley railway line, providing a train option for returning to the start. Toilet facilities are available at the start and finish lines. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
