Lory Summer Trail Series - August 2026
The Lory Summer Trail Series is a four-date midweek trail race series held in August at Lory State Park, Eltuck Picnic Area, Fort Collins, Colorado. The series aims to provide a low-key set of shorter trail races that give newer trail runners an introduction to trail racing and allow more experienced runners to work on speed over shorter courses.

Race schedule and course notes: August 4 is the Flat and Fast Eltuck Valley 5K (about 250 ft elevation gain); August 11 is Into the Hills Eltuck 10K (about 1,700 ft gain); August 18 is Into the Hills Eltuck 5K (about 700 ft gain); August 25 is the Flat and Fast Eltuck Valley 12K (about 500 ft gain). There is no on-course aid. Two permanent toilets are available at the start and finish; additional park restrooms are along each course at listed mile points.
Participant provisions and awards: pizza will be provided after each race with support from the Fort Collins Running Club and beverages with support from New Belgium Brewing. All participants may choose a free vintage shirt from previous Gnar races as available. Series awards will be given to top points scorers at the end of the series.
Registration and policies: early and regular pricing tiers apply and there is special pricing for ages 17 and under. A 75% race transfer credit can be issued for future Gnar events and transfers within the series are possible up to 72 hours before a race. Entries are nonrefundable and nontransferable except for waitlist transfers; no refunds or credits will be issued if a race is cancelled for extreme weather, fire, disease, or other unforeseeable events.
Rules and site information: purposeful littering is prohibited. Runners must stay on trail and yield appropriately to other users. Mechanical aids require prior approval from race staff. Dogs are not allowed on course. Vehicles without an annual Colorado State Parks pass must purchase a day pass on entry. Parking is at the Eltuck Picnic Area until full, after which cars will be directed to the nearby Spur Road with a short walk to the start. Bibs are provided at the race start and chips are preattached; participants running multiple races are asked to reuse their bibs.
Gender and results: the series provides non-binary options in registration and results; for awards, non-binary runners will be eligible in their birth gender pool. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
